An
Academic Session arranged in connection with the Inaugural Meeting of SWARBICA,
was held at the National Museum Auditorium, New Delhi, at 10.00 A.M. on Sunday,
the 12th December, 1976. The session was presided over by Prof. Amba Prasad,
Professor of History, Delhi
University.
The
delegates of SWARBICA and a large number of invitees attended the meeting.
Each
country in the region was invited to present a paper on the occasion. Only two
papers* were received, one from Nepal and another from India,
The
session started with Dr. Shaphalya Amatya, Chief Exploration Officer of Nepal
reading the note entitled "Economic and Cultural Relations with the Region",
This was
followed by Dr. A.R. Kulkarni of India who read his learned paper "'Cultural
Contacts of India."
After the
reading of these papers, Dr. Morris Rieger, Chairman of the Committee on
Archival Development set up by the International Council on Archives, read a
paper* on the Committee for Archival Development and the International Archival
Development Fund.
The
Chairman wound up the session by some valuable observations on the cultural and
economic ties between India and her neighboring countries since the ancient
times and the materials relating to one another available in the countries in
the region.
